Your Light IS Your Strength

The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. ~ John 1:5

I’ve loved men since the day I was born, and I am so blessed to have had such a wonderful father, two wonderful brothers, and to have married the love of my life, Bruce Bermudez, over 30 years ago.

My Dad was in the Army, and by age sixteen we had moved five times. This included two years in Paris, France, where I became fluent in French and two years in Giessen, Germany. The first time I was sexually molested was when I was about four years old. We were living in Princeton, New Jersey, where Daddy got his PhD in International Relations.

Without sharing every detail, I was basically conditioned to accept sexual abuse as “the way it is,” with the sub-textural message being that men have the power. In addition to that, as I have such empathy for others, I found myself overpowered and subsequently raped by a fellow exchange student from the University of Kansas who was sort of an outcast. Alas, I had trusted him at a very vulnerable moment in my junior year abroad in Bordeaux, France.

Throughout my life, I’ve experienced unwanted sexual advances of varying degrees, and it’s always the worst when it’s someone you trust. It’s beyond horrible.

The most important part of learning how to navigate life as a woman, has been about discernment when it comes to men, and how to stand up to them when necessary.

It’s been my experience without naming names, that some rich men think they can buy women. I could have been a star on more than one occasion, had I made different choices – meaning had I not said no.

I’m lucky to have made it through those experiences, and to be where I am now. My sweet husband Bruce and I feel it is extremely important that all these children who were sexually abused by Jeffrey Epstein and his compatriots finally get the justice they deserve. Their abusers, no matter who they are, however rich and powerful, of whatever religious or political persuasion, need to be held accountable.

This is about Humanity. This is about a huge shift in collective consciousness. It’s time for the big spotlight to shine on what has been going on in the dark, for way too long. Let the sunshine in. Let all be revealed and let the chips fall where they may.  Let women have a voice and may their collective light illuminate the entire world.
